When working with an open-cut trench with depths of 20 feet- excavation safety is key. Currently, INTREN’s Civil team is working on a 64-acre open green site (one of the last in Chicago), building a combination of five cast-in-place manholes and approximately 2000 feet of open-cut trench for a utility customer's 12-duct and 24-duct conduit package. The running line is 200 yards off the Chicago river.
For high-risk projects like this, INTREN utilizes trench boxes and installs dewatering points, so the ground can be dewatered around the clock to safely install conduit. The combination of engineered shoring and dewatering protects the crew from unstable ground and soil conditions and keeps everyone safe.
